About the event

This project was started several years prior to Covid to record the personal histories of our LGBTQ community. The histories are currently stored at UNC Charlotte in the Atkins Library Oral History Archives - Goldmine (under Charlotte LGBTQ+ Oral Histories).

We believe it's time to begin again to record our oral histories before they are lost forever, especially the LGBT Seniors. Tina Wright, who is an oral historian at UNC Charlotte, and has been involved with CQOHP from the beginning, will be the co-coordinator along Linda Lawyer.

There are several opportunities to help with this project.

1. Record interviews with members of our community. We have audio equipment as well as the ability to use Zoom.

2. Write summaries of the interviews and identify keywords and their location for researchers

3. Review an automated translation of the interview and correct whatever was misinterpreted (we all know that automated translation services are not 100% correct).

The second and third options are perfect for those of you who like to read people's stories in the comfort of your own home, but at the same time, give back to our community.

On Sunday, March 27th from 2:00-4:00 at Time Out Youth we will present an overview of the whole process and conduct an interviewing workshop.

If you have an interest, please contact Linda Lawyer at LAL_28216@yahoo.com, or call 704-650-7386.

The oral history movement is spreading across this country, with everyone from families to high school classes being recorded. Come be a part of our recorded Queer Oral History.
