Our Story
Charlotte LGBTQ Elders formed in 2018 to serve as a resource for LGBTQ elders in our community aged 55+, and we received our 501(c)3 status in 2021. Our work focuses on two tracks: (1) To host monthly programs or social events to bring elders together to connect and learn; and (2) To identify and promote programs with aging organizations in our region in an effort to serve as a resource for those organizations providing cultural competency training around LGBTQ elders. We are also working to become a local chapter of the national SAGE organization.
Our annual budget is less than $10,000. Expenses: state and federal filing and application fees, social media site fees, workshop presenter fees, space rental for larger events, etc. Income from: personal donations, small project grants and ticketed events.
